NASA’s space probe New Horizons made some images of Pluto at a distance of around 50 million km. The colour movies below, assembled from the images, show Pluto and its largest moon Charon in motion and colour.
New Horizons is on its way to Pluto, and will make its closest approach on 14 July, flying by around 12,500 km (7,800 mi) above the surface, so don’t worry about the low resolution movies, because the best is yet to come!
Pluto-centric, meaning that Pluto is centred in the movie.
Barycentric, meaning that the shared centre of gravity is centred in the movie.
