Hard Science Fiction

I’ve always thought it was a bit strange that in movies like Star Wars, for example, I could hear explosions in space, because I know that for there to be sound, there needs to be air (or water, etc.), and there’s no air in space, hence no sound. And there are a lot more things in science fiction that are more in the realms of fantasy than science.

That’s why movies like Star Wars are called soft science fiction, which basically means that they’re not scientifically accurate. My preference goes to hard science fiction. Hard science fiction emphasises on scientific accuracy, or technical detail, or both. I feel this creates a way more exciting experience, because it’s nearer to what could possible lie ahead for us in the future. It might sound a bit boring for some, but you can make a hard science fiction movie, or game, etc., just as exciting as a soft one, if not more so.

Please watch the amazing short movie below called Wanderers by Erik Wernquist as an example of hard science fiction. Don’t forget to click the full screen button!
