P.T. On PC

On 12 August 2014, P.T., short for playable teaser, was released as a free download for the PlayStation 4. The demo was enthusiastically received, and was truly frightening. It served as an interactive teaser for the game Silent Hills, which would have been the tenth instalment in the Silent Hill series.

Silent Hill is a Japanese horror franchise created by Keiichiro Toyama, and published by Konami. It’s one of my favourite horror franchises, which, unfortunately, hasn’t been living up to its legacy. After the release of Silent Hill 4: The Room in 2004, the series hasn’t been what it used to be, however, P.T. gave me hope again.

Unfortunately, due to conflicts with Konami, developer Kojima and his senior staff left their publisher, and on 27 April 2015, Konami confirmed that Silent Hills ‘would not be continued.’ To everyone’s dismay, P.T. was pulled from the PlayStation Store on 29 April 2015.

Luckily, aspiring game developer Farhan Qureshi recreated the P.T. hallway for PC, with gameplay and all! He spent 104 hours making it, and called it PuniTy. The download is free and around 70 MB. It’s definitely worth a look, he really captured the P.T. feel!

Besides the games, there are also two Silent Hill movies, namely Silent Hill, which is really good, and a mediocre sequel called Silent Hill: Revelation 3D.

Not long after the cancellation of Silent Hills, Allison Road appeared. The game is heavily inspired by P.T., which is not a bad thing, in my opinion, since we’ll never be able to play Silent Hills.

To fund the game, its developers started a Kickstarter campaign. They later cancelled the campaign, and joined up with publisher Team 17, who’s currently providing their funds to develop the game. The prototype gameplay video below looks very promising.

Updates:

  • Unfortunately, Allison Road has been cancelled. It’s developers and publisher have both released statements about it. The curse of P.T. continues.
  • Allison Road is back in production.

  • Basically, I’ve found this thread on Reddit about the creator Qimsar and his PT creation (I’m very late to the party, sorry). It’s above everything else and is playable until he got shut down by Konami. But his writing on sites seems to be intact, and he might be working at Konami now (IDK). Maybe that’s why it’s still available on the internet? Just search Google for PT for PC v0.9.2. You will love it!
