The episode used footage from the original Star Trek. They basically used the episode The Trouble with Tribbles, which originally aired on December 29, 1967, but the scene where Sisko meets Kirk on the bridge towards the end of the episode was instead taken from the episode Mirror, Mirror, which originally aired on October 6, 1967.

Trials and Tribble-ations warps Captain Benjamin Sisko and the crew back into a time where the Enterprise was way more glamorous. Its much younger looking Captain Kirk was cutely surrounded by an onslaught of tribbles. The new crew tried to blend in, but got into several sometimes hilarious encounters nevertheless. They had to find Arne Darvin, a Klingon agent, who wanted to assassinate Kirk using a bomb.
