There are a lot of developments in the world of smartphones, but this one really caught my eye. It’s called Project Ara, and I think it looks very promising.
Basically, it’s the ultimate customisable smartphone. It consists of an endoskeleton, or ‘endo’, on which you can add ‘modules’, the building blocks of the phone. The video below will show you more about it.
The possibilities look endless with a smartphone like this, I can’t wait to test one! The phone is set to have a limited market pilot in Puerto Rico later this year.
Updates:
- They apparently needed more versions than they thought, so they delayed the phone’s debut to 2016, probably somewhere in the U.S.
- The phone is delayed again to a supposed 2017 consumer launch, and there’ve been some heavy redesigns.
- Google has suspended Project Ara, but the company may work with partners to bring Project Ara’s technology to market, potentially through licensing agreements.
